There is a fabric and color for everyone. Fabrics can make a room seem warmer, more comfortable and inviting. The right combination of color and texture can create a space you’ll never want to leave.
What is the right combination?
Fabric and color selection is as individual as people are. The best place to start is with the color(s) you envision for the space. Then shop for the fabric according to your color. Of course, if you love fabrics, the vision may start with the fabric. In that case, select colors you see in the fabric for your wall or furniture color. When choosing wall color, pick up a few paint color cards that coordinate with the fabric. Lay the color swatches in the space, walk away from is don’t inspect the color to it’s smallest molecule. Look for the color that blends and flows. Do not always go with the color that matches perfectly.
I usually suggest using the vision fabric for the accents such as window treatments, pillows, throws or table rounds. Furniture pieces
I prefer as a base, a display apparatus, for the many beautiful accents created with the fabric.
Introducing Texture
Texture is introduced visually with coordinating fabrics and trims and tactically with other room accents like faux wall finishes and rugs. When selecting a complimentary fabric for texture I start with checks, stripes plaids or diamonds designs with a speck of the wall or furniture color. If the main fabric is a stripe, add a large toile as accent pillows. Or introduce a subtle texture such as a smaller stripe with a jacquard or moiré background. Add fabric or trim that invites one to touch the treatment. Texture can easily be added with tassel trims, beaded trim and even a flat braid. Trimmings give a treatment depth, an outline and a high-end look.
